Invasive Species
Eurasian Milfoil
Our lakes and the surrounding area are under threat from invasive species that can rapidly take over water and land areas.
One threat that we must guard against is Eurasian Milfoil. This aquatic plant has infested several lakes in BC and has proven exceptionally difficult to remove. It could spread to our lakes very easily by small parts of the plants being transported by boats coming in from infected lakes. The clean – drain – dry program will help guard against threats such as this.
Knapweed
A land-based threat to our area that is expanding every year is Knapweed. The Regional Districts have had roadside spraying programs, but Knapweed is becoming widespread throughout the local parklands and on private property. See this link for a description of the problem from the Provincial Ministry of Agriculture. click here —> XX
Aquatic Invasives
We are always concerned with the possibility aquatic invasives entering the watercourses in the Green Lake watershed. We should expand our concern to cover all lakes and rivers we encounter to help stop the spread of unwanted species. Please share this information with your friends and family.
